Malta Electronic Certification Services Limited (“MECS”) acts as the National Certification Authority and serves as the Qualified Trust Service Provider (“QTSP”) on behalf of the Government of Malta in compliance with EIDAS Regulation 910/2014. As the Certification Authority, MECS is responsible for the issuance and management of certificates including the authentication and digital electronic signing certificates embedded in the documents issued by Identità (“the Agency”) which is entrusted with the day-to-day operations. The Agency, which also acts on behalf of the Government of Malta, offers a specialised public service in matters relating to the notifications of Acts of Civil Status, the Registration of Public Deeds and the issuance of e-ID cards, e-passports, visas, and residence permits.
